Bird Skull by kouenliHistory Bird Skull by kouenli

The Ukrainian Game Hort was bred to be the perfect dog for hunting large animals and protecting people. It was first used by people from the high mountains. The dogs had to be very resistant and strong to survive in such a harsh climate. Even today they are still an extremely healthy and independent dog breed. It is said that the people living in the mountains kept these dogs in large packs and let them roam the country half-wild. They were able to hunt on their own and live wild.
The breed was created by breeding Pitbull terrier, Presa Canario, European Doberman, Dire Wolf and Borzoi together.
Hort = is hound in Ukrainian.

Bird Skull by kouenliBEHAVIOUR/temperament Bird Skull by kouenli
The Ukrainian Game Hort is highly suspicious of strangers and very protective of its family. Often only a small pack of Ukrainian Game Horts could protect whole villages. These dogs have a high prey drive and almost relentless energy and determination. They are ideal for hunting big game such as deer or boar, but should never be kept in the city.
Have strong temperaments and are powerful. If you want a perfect guardian - you're welcome, but you should look after them, cause they don't like a lot of attention from people. The breed used to be independent, while they were in the mountains.

Coat types:
Smooth, short, medium, long.
Can be curly or straight.
May have furnishing.

Chest:
Length and depth of chest must be in the right proportion to the body length. The depth with slightly arched ribs should be approximately 50% the height of the dog at the withers. The chest has got a good width with an especially well-developed forechest.
Head:
Skull part: Proportional to the body. Massive and compact in appearance, covered with thick skin, slightly narrow. The shape tends towards an elongated cube. The cranial-facial lines are parallel or slightly converging.
The muzzle: be well-developed and equal in length to the skull.
Stop: Must be sharp and pronounced.

Face part:

Nose: The nose can be black in black dogs; in brown dogs, respectively, lighter tones(can be all colours according to real genetics). Nostrils well developed, wider, with large openings, generally don't perform. Somewhat exaggerated Roman nose.

Muzzle: The muzzle must be strongly developed, equal in length to the skull, to have depth. The mouth should be widely opened, reaching the molars. The width of the muzzle must also be in the region of the upper and lower incisors. Straight, serious, eyes can't be prominent and so affords the leverage for an extremely strong bite.

Lips: The Lips should be dry and provide a tight closure of the mouth. The pigment of the gums should be dark; on brown dogs a corresponding lighter tone. The lips should reach as far as the molars. Seen from the front, the upper and lower lips come together to form an inverted V. The flews are slightly divergent.

Jaws / Teeth: Powerful broad upper and lower jaw, scissor bite, 42 teeth correctly placed and normal size.

Ears: The Ears remain natural and proper size; they are on both sides at the highest point of the skull and is adjacent to the cheeks. (In those countries where it is permitted cupping his ears cropped in accordance with the length of the head, high set vertically). Ukrainian Game Horts often have their ears cropped, a procedure that is functionally related to breed type for both the traditional guard duty and effective sound localization. According to the Standard FCI, ears are "normally cropped and carried erect".When docked, ears should always curl inwards.
Eyes:
Eyes can be in all colours. The eyes are medium-sized, and oval. Fitting lids, covered with hair. They should give an intelligent, serious impression.
Wrinkles:
The standard does not call for them but they may be present on the top of the head.

Eyes: can be all colours (also at some dogs it can be change- can depend on climate, mental atmosphere or even from food). Medium sized, oval and dark in colour. Lighter shades are permitted for brown dogs. Close lying eyelids. Eyelids shall be covered with hair.

Wrinkles: Can be. Abundance undesired.

Neck: The neck must have a good length and be in proportion to the body and the head. Solid and straight, it tends to be cylindrical and muscular. Its outline rises gradually and is softly curved. Its carriage is upright and shows much nobility. The hair on the sides of the neck goes backwards.

Withers (the Withers): They should be pronounced in height and length, especially in males, which determines the slope of the topline from withers to croup.
Back: A short, compact back is desirable with broad well-developed muscles. It must never be ‘roached’, but should be straight and broad.
Loins: broad with well-developed muscles. The bitch can be slightly longer due to the needed space for the nipples.
CroupBroad, well-developed muscles, slightly sloping from the croup to the base of the tail. Must be well-rounded with a slight slope, not horizontal or deeply sloping.
Chest:  Small, must be rounded and sized for 30 cm direct from the shoulder and deep for 20cm. The chest is broad and well-developed in front.
Underline and belly: the lower end of the sternum to the pelvis is markedly tucked up. Very thick.
Size: Size: males: 78–82 cm. Females: 73–78 cm
Weight: males: 45–50 kg. Females: 35–42 kg
